Prologue:
Before the world that we know and loved came to be, there are legends and myths passed down from the heavens of an world before ours - a world that was laid in ruin, where gods, demons, devils, and primodials laid in eternal sleep; a world where people were lost in time and forgotten to the ages.
From the ruined world came 2 rays of hope... 2 new gods appeared from the heavens. They were Tyrne, the god of time, and Lysrious, the god of motion. Looking at the troubled planet, they decided amongst themselves to give the planet new life. The eliminated the old civilizations and gave the world new life.
After all this, they decided to create new races to rule over the world. Yet, while the races possessed the knowledge and wisdom of the gods, they were never as strong as the wild beasts. The races were also more impulsive in their spirit. There were many times that they had come close to dying out forever. Tyrne was then concerned about the future of the races. Thus did he give them a mighty force in which to help them survive. That force was the mighty and powerful seru creatures.
Since the dawn of the race's memory, the races have lived together with these creatures known as seru. The seru lived to serve the race's wishes, always obeying their every command, and making them stronger and faster. When a seru is not worn by a person, they look as though made of stone. When they are touched by a person, the seru changes form and gives the person special abilities.
With a Seru, a person could lift objects heavier then themselves. They could fly at will, and could control objects without touching them.
Then suddenly, that era started coming to an end. From seemingly nowhere, a strange mist spread across the land. It brought an end to the union between the races and the seru. When the mist came, the Seru who obeyed the races turned against them. They began attacking like crazed beasts. Seru that were attached - or even attached themselves - to a person could control their minds, turning them into demented creatures. Those creatures lived on instinct alone while their life force was steadily drained.
As if forsaken by the 2 gods, the world's civilizations started to collapsed into ruins. It was a time of twilight for the races. Those who escaped went into desolate areas and protected each other. Their only hope lies within the mysterious genesis trees.
Description of the Land:
A whole world covered in a thick layer of mist...
This doesn't mean that there aren't a few places that are mist free. Those places are protected by tall walls, extremely tall skyscraper-styled buildings, or other methods of mist protection.
Renorg is one such place. A town of 5,000 people surrounded on one side with an ocean and a beach... and three other sides of man-made walls. Filled with shops, homes, a few small fields of wheat, corn, and other veggies. During the day, the ocean winds push the mist away from Renorg long enough for the people to do some hunting. At night, when the wind dies, the villages return to the safety of the walls. Such has it been for the last 10 years. The only outstanding feature of Renorg is a single, dormant genesis tree, asleep for as long as people could remember.
Outside the village, plains are dotted with several thick forests. Old pathways overrun by plants lead to other towns, villages, and cities that have fallen to the mist. In the far distance from Renorg lies the Accutice castle that used to rule over the Kristle region. A grand spectacle it was in its day, but now covered in moss and vines.
During the day, when the mist clears from the surrounding 50 miles of Renorg, the worst one can expect are the standard beasts and monsters. At night... when the winds die down and the mist returns... The true horrors appear from the surrounding areas. The mist-possessed serus stir and look for people to attack and possess.
In recent days, however... the winds have begun acting strangely. They begin and end randomly during the day and night. What omen does this strange weather pattern bring?
Facts for the players:
1) All characters start off at level five.
2) All characters start off with 4,480 gold to spend on whatever they wish.
3) This is a semi-formal game. However feel free to PM me if you'd like to make a house ruling on something.
4) All Warforged, Shardmind, and undead based races are not allowed in this campaign. This will be explained as the campaign goes on.
5) I will be making a player character as well for the party.
6) All characters will be starting in the same city of Renorg for plot sake and the fact it's easier that way. That being said... everyone can start on their own and met up somehow during the start of the campaign.
7) All characters should choose one of the following elements: Fire, Cold, Acid, Force, Lightning, Radiant, and Necrotic. The Element you choose will be your innate element for the game. It'll determine bonuses to attacks with the same keyword. It'll also determine resistances and vulnerabilities.
8) Fire resists fire and is vulnerable to cold. Cold resists to Cold and is vulnerable to Fire. Acid resists Acid and is vulnerable to Force. Force resists Force and is vulnerable to Lightning. Lightning resists Lightning and is vulnerable to Acid. Radiant resists radiant and is vulnerable to Necrotic. Necrotic resists Necrotic and is vulnerable to Radiant.
9) You gain a 5 + half level resist to the element of your choice. You also gain a 5 + half level vulnerable to the opposing element.
10) You also gain a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls when using an attack with the same keyword as your element. You also gain a -2 penalty to attack and damage rolls when using an attack with a keyword from your opposing element.
11) I'll permit the standard gods of 4th edition, despite them not being relevant to this campaign.
